Want to transfer your photos from Google to Apple, or vice versa? Too damn bad, because all your tags and organization are going out the window. The problem with that is the albums only exist within that app. They want all your photos dumped into a bucket, and let the application sort them into virtual albums instead of folders. That’s always made sense, and is the way many Android galleries (but not G Photos on the web) still work.īut Google, Apple, and to an extent Microsoft don’t want anyone doing it that way any more. We’ve been brought up the old way, organize photos into folders (and using tags). I know what you mean, but there’s a problem. I want to drop my images in a folder locally and automatically have it synchronized with the cloud.ĭoes anybody know about a solution that is able to do this? Maybe some open-source integration with OwnCloud/Nextcloud? I am really desperate to find something that works exactly like Drive and Photos did before 2019. I get that Google Photos works well for smartphone photos, but imo it doesn't when you take most of the photos with a camera and also want to group them into separate folders for separate events ("Birthday Party", "Hiking Trip".). I don't want some photo service to be the place where I have to upload my images to, and I don't want to give up my folder structure. Since Google removed Drive-Photos Sync in 2019, I can't find a good alternative where I can just backup my whole private photo library (organized in a folder structure) to the cloud, keep the folder structure as in a regular cloud (GDrive, OneDrive.) but at the same time have all of the images available in a nice web interface and app to quickly browse images, get notifications about memories, etc like in GPhotos.
